Why Haku Kale is the best character in Nepali Film Industry?
Loot was a breakthrough in Nepali film Industry for many reasons like outstanding presentation, interesting story-telling, improved cinematography and most importantly the realistic character; Haku Kale, whom I am about to write about.
I don't feel like calling Haku a 'hero' straight because he is a lootera and also he takes advantages of vulnerable situations like economic blockade (in Loot 2; much ruined sequel). The protagonist is not a villain either because he isn't directly against any good 'hero' characters. Pandey is a drug and arms dealer, Jagat and Gofley are ready to do anything that makes them money, Narey is a gambler.
The vast majority of film makers depict 'villain' as rich, powerful and bad film makers also give them a large army. This can be a case but it used to be so common in Nepali Films that one would easily get irritated. Haku Kale is different for he starts from scratch. He is powerful but not in a traditional sense i.e. neither rich nor powerful with large army. Instead, he is psychologically brilliant, his ability to convince Pandey, Jagat, Gofley and Naresh says it all. Not even once Haku Kale attempts to murder or intend to use his weapons to hurt someone else. This is a real life character, he could be around you, at your office,or hemay be your gharbhetti who was once like Haku.
At a shot in Loot-2, he has shown his psychologically dominant character making Baam do exactly what he wants. At first, when Pittal and Khatri threaten Baam, Haku is quite but as soon as the threaten has finished, he shows sympathy towards Baam and promises to keep his family safe. This sort of combination of psychological up and down remains very effective. If Haku had shown such sympathy earlier, Baam might have asked for more or not work for him at all. This way he not only brings Baam into his circle but also prevents him from diverting even in the extreme cases.
Haku Kale is a practical man, that's why he doesn't attempt in any murder, he loves his family and has complete love and support from his wife only because of his convincing capacity. He tells his wife about making their son a doctor, any mother would have agreed then. He is a chill character and doesn't overreact or 'overlaugh' as shown in other traditional Nepali Films. Haku is a classic sociopath fit for a Nepali society.
The sequel, Loot-2, despite being a failure as a movie, however still has justified Haku Kale character. One of the most satisfying scene; when Haku appears as a politician, just like I said, he could be around you!
Great job up there. Way to go, Champ!
