Nepal economy: boy's perspective

Image
Lying between two hot pots, Nepal can't remain cold forever. It has started to get hotter and it shall continue. While the political risks still exist noticeably, most of the political parties have only one choice left; to help build the economy of Nepal. Because of being land-locked country it will prove to be very difficult to make it to the global levels.    However, there are possibilities to at least rise to a middle income country from low income country. Things must be done quickly and effectively. For a country with large tourism possibility but not much progress, large hydroelectricity possibility but not much progress, ... and so on,  entrepreneurship, education for critical thinking, intelligence agencies for the government, very low taxes for importing productive items with a viewpoint of creating good business and industry environment, and using remittances largely for productive causes instead of big television, mobiles, etc...  could give Nepal bett...

Why Haku Kale is the best character in Nepali Film Industry?

Image
Loot was a breakthrough in Nepali film Industry for many reasons like outstanding presentation, interesting story-telling, improved cinematography and most importantly the realistic character; Haku Kale, whom I am about to write about. I don't feel like calling Haku a 'hero' straight because he is a lootera and also he takes advantages of vulnerable situations like economic blockade (in Loot 2; much ruined sequel). The protagonist is not a villain either because he isn't directly against any good 'hero' characters. Pandey is a drug and arms dealer, Jagat and Gofley are ready to do anything that makes them money, Narey is a gambler. The vast majority of film makers depict 'villain' as rich, powerful and bad film makers also give them a large army. This can be a case but it used to be so common in Nepali Films that one would easily get irritated. Haku Kale is different for he starts from scratch. He is powerful but not in a traditional sense i....

Karnali Chisapani Hydropower Project, Nepal

Image
Karnali Chisapani river.  What is pride for a nation like ours? It is clear that the Karnali Chisapani Hydro-power will be the fourth largest in the world when completed. Nepal's current hydro-power production is 1600 MW. And the total installed capacity of Karnali Chisapani alone would be a staggering 10,800 MW! While the rivers of Nepal are being sold, this project is of huge interest to all the Nepalese people. The income from this project in a year would be equivalent to Richard Branson's net worth i.e. about five kharbas in rupees, which is also equal to the total estimated cost of the giant hydro-power project. It is expected to be completed by the year 2083 BS. It is also the year when the world will have started to take oil crisis very seriously. Thanks to the outstanding water resources of Nepal. Meanwhile, the threats of deglaciation and climate change also do exist. Yet, that should not stop us! The project is multip...

Uranium of Nepal, Just a Fantasy?

Ever wondered how rich Nepal is? Yes, if you are here following links on internet and having some research, the absolutely correct answer is a big “YES”. This article literally doesn’t calculate the total amount of money in Nepal (I can’t), but it does calculate its some part of potential wealth in different forms and not just money!  For a country with GDP per capita of Rs 2.5 lakhs i.e. just a tiny 5% of the world’s average, mining Uranium is not even near to easy. But with the help of international investors from around the world, Nepal could explore and see what’s behind the mountains that give off radioactive radiations. 11% of the total electricity is from Nuclear power. Canada, Kazakhstan and Australia are the top three countries with largest Uranium mines. A gram of uranium could fuel a car for nearly a hundred years. However, no one has been able to do so yet. Well, because of technical problems. Uranium mine has been confirmed in Upper Mustang by the Department...
